DAVENPORT -- A crash involving a semi-truck and an Iowa Department of Transportation maintenance truck caused a fuel spill that closed portions of Interstate 80 on Wednesday.

Around 1 p.m., Iowa State Patrol responded to the accident in the eastbound lane of I-80 near the U.S. 61 interchange in Davenport, according to Iowa State Trooper Dan Loussaert. Davenport Police Department, Davenport Fire Department and the Iowa Department of Transportation also responded to the crash.

"The two vehicles collided, causing a fuel spill that closed both lanes for about an hour," Trooper Loussaert said.

The semi-truck rear-ended the IDOT truck, which was painting lines in the right lane of I-80 eastbound, Trooper Loussaert said. The semi-truck then went into the left lane and crashed into the median cable barrier separating east and westbound traffic.

A fuel tank of one of the vehicles ripped open because of the crash, according to Trooper Loussaert. He added the semi-truck sustained a "fair amount" of damage.

There were no injuries reported, he said, with the two drivers the only people involved in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
